This is the first curved garden bed planted by Diane Crumley . Many of the adults using this garden are developmentally disabled with some physical restrictions and the raised radial separated beds designed by Heather Nichols-Crowell, the Watershed Coordinator for Yolo County RCD allows people to get in between the rows for watering and ability to keep area weed free. Due to confidentiality, we cannot put up photos of the clients. When we saw the drawing, Janie and I wondered how we could accomplish the design. Heather, was very helpful and sprayed the circles on the ground, measuring them our with a tape, it turned out to be really easy. Then about 30 clients and staff piled on the dirt and mulch and planted. The No Barrier clients grew many of the plants from seedlings. I was very impressed. The design included mixing the tomato's with Marigolds helps keep bad insects deterred. The layout is below. Jimmy is going to add the drip system
The first photos are of the ground as it was prepped March 26, 2009 before any planting. RCD checked the soil, it had composted manure and additives along with the natural soil which is Class 1 Reif soil. We rototill the ground and plot area. Planting Timing & Coordination & Soils was dine by Jeanette Wrysinski, Senior Program Manager Yolo County Resource Conservation Dist. Thank you!

Historic Nelson Ranch & No Barriers Community Garden The idea started by Diane Crumley, Janie & Jim who came out for our horse program, asking if we had a small spot for one of their clients who wanted to grow some of the seeds he had collected. It was something we had planed to do with the ranch. Look what started! Now the food produced is donated back to benefit Yolo Food Bank and other non profits.
